In the early hours of Sunday morning, a 17-year-old boy was shot and hospitalized on the city’s South Side. The incident took place just before 8:30 a.m. in the 8100 block of South Halsted Street, where the teen was inside a business. Two individuals outside the business pulled out a gun and fired shots, striking the victim in the body.
Jeramie Bizzle, a digital news producer at CBS 2 Chicago, reported that he was then taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized according to police reports. The shooters fled the scene in a gray SUV, and their direction of travel is unknown as of now. No one has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting yet.
Area detectives have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack. As Bizzle reported, it is still unclear what led to this violent act or why anyone would want to harm this young man. However, community members are demanding justice and safety for their neighborhoods after this latest incident of violence on the city’s South Side.
