An aid organization, World Central Kitchen (WCK), has announced that seven of its employees have been killed in an airstrike in the Gaza Strip. The organization has accused Israel of carrying out the attack and stated that the team was traveling in two armored vehicles with the WCK logo, as well as one unprotected vehicle, in a conflict-free zone. Despite coordinating their trip with the Israeli army, the convoy was fired upon shortly after leaving a warehouse in Deir al-Balah.

The victims hailed from Australia, Poland, Great Britain, the Palestinian territories and one also had US and Canadian citizenship. The organization’s executive director expressed outrage at the attack, referring to it as an assault on humanitarian organizations and emphasizing that food should not be used as a weapon in war. Israel has announced that an investigation will be conducted to understand the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

WCK has been actively involved in distributing aid in the Palestinian territory amidst the conflict between Israel and radical Islamic Hamas in Gaza Strip. They are one of two aid organizations delivering supplies by ship from Cyprus to Gaza and were instrumental in constructing a temporary pier in the region.
