Terry Ortiz, owner of the Cradles & Crayons Kids Cafe in East El Paso, expressed concern about the impact of a temporary closure due to an incident in the parking lot. The cafe serves over 180 free meals to children who stay for after school programs, and its closure would result in a loss of about 1,000 meals for those who rely on them.

The cafe had to close for at least a week after the incident occurred. Witnesses reported that the person responsible for the crash fled the scene. Ortiz mentioned that they are still determining whether they will need to cover repair costs themselves or if their insurance will assist.

The incident was reported to the police just before 1 a.m., and details about what specifically occurred are still emerging. The cafe is a vital resource for many children in the community, and efforts are being made to resume operations as soon as possible to continue serving those in need.
