A recent Israeli raid in Khan Younes, a town in southern Gaza Strip, led to the discovery of a mass grave containing dozens of bodies. The Gaza Civil Defense confirmed the findings, stating that the Israeli Prime Minister had promised to increase pressure on Palestinian Hamas around the same time.

In response to questions from AFP, the Israeli army stated that they would verify these claims. Among the bodies found were some that had been stripped of their clothes, suggesting that they had been arrested, tortured and mistreated by the occupying army.

The discovery of the mass grave has left families grieving and searching for missing loved ones. Oum Mohammed al-Harazeen, who was searching for her husband, stated that he had disappeared when the Israeli army entered Khan Younes a month prior as he had only gone out to bring food and water.

The Israeli army withdrew from Khan Yunis on April 7 after conducting a “precise and limited operation” at the hospital which is one of the largest in Gaza. This shocking discovery coincided with the United States approving $13 billion in military aid for Israel, its longtime ally. Hamas, which has been in power in Gaza since 2007, claimed that this signaled Washington’s approval for Israel to continue “aggressing” against Palestinians.
