Johannesburg-based production company Mannequin Pictures has secured the rights to the African continent for their comedy docuseries “The World’s Strangest Jobs.” The eight-part series, hosted by South African comedian and actor Schalk Bezuidenhout, showcases unique and unusual jobs from around the world.

Bezuidenhout, known for his acting work and comedy, has appeared on Netflix’s stand-up comedy show “Only Jokes Allowed” and won a SAFTA award for his acting in “Hotel.” In “The World’s Strangest Jobs,” he travels the world to find these bizarre careers, such as pet detectives in New York and rental boyfriends in Tokyo.

Mannequin CEO Delon Bakker expressed excitement about Prime Video picking up the show. The growing interest of streaming platforms in the African region is evident, with projections indicating substantial growth in the subscription video on demand (SVOD) market.

The docuseries is produced by Delon Bakker and Kyle Ambrose of Mannequin Pictures. The company recently completed production on the theatrical film “London Calling,” directed by Allan Unger and starring Josh Duhamel and Rick Hoffman. Highland Film Group is handling international sales for “London Calling.”

The competitive landscape in Africa’s streaming market is unique due to the presence of local competitors like Showmax alongside global platforms.
