Samsung has maintained its position as the leading smartphone manufacturer globally with a 20.8% market share in the first quarter, selling 60.1 million devices, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC). Apple came in second with a 17% market share and 50.1 million iPhones sold. Despite a slight decrease in sales for both companies, the overall smartphone market experienced an increase in sales for the third consecutive quarter.
Chinese manufacturers made significant progress in the market, with Xiaomi shipping 33% more devices and securing third place with 40.8 million units sold. Transsion experienced an impressive 85% growth, landing in fourth place with 28.5 million devices sold. Ryan Reith from IDC noted that Samsung reclaimed the top spot from Apple in the first quarter, and it is expected that both US and South Korean manufacturers will maintain their dominance in the higher price segment, while Chinese competitors focus on expanding their sales numbers.
