During the 2023-24 NBA season, Sacramento Kings big man Domantas Sabonis made a significant change in his life by deleting all his social media accounts. This decision was made in an effort to protect his mental health and focus more on his game without distractions or negative influences from outside sources.

In an interview with ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on the “Woj Pod,” Sabonis explained the reasons behind his decision to give up social media. He emphasized that by tuning out the noise and criticism online, he was able to focus more on playing his game without any external distractions. Sabonis highlighted that he values the opinions of his coaches, family, and teammates above all else, and their support is what truly matters to him.

By deleting social media, Sabonis found that he had more free time and clarity of mind. He was able to concentrate on watching game film and improving his skills without being influenced by outside voices. Sabonis emphasized that he didn’t need to hear or read any opinions from others because, ultimately, he was the one on the court doing the job.

Sabonis has faced pressure and intimidation from social media before but has found success in distancing himself from those platforms. His impressive statistics on the court, including averaging 19.5 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 8.3 assists in 78 games, demonstrate that his decision to focus on his game and mental well-being has paid off. Sabonis’s 61 consecutive double-doubles further underscore his ability to excel without the distractions of social media.

Overall, Sabonis’s experience shows that taking a break from social media can have positive effects on mental health and performance on the court. It’s important for athletes and other individuals to find a balance between using technology for good purposes and avoiding its negative impacts.
