The Science Museum of Virginia in Richmond was buzzing with excitement on Monday afternoon as over 1,000 people gathered to witness the once-in-a-lifetime celestial event. The museum’s new open space was the perfect setting for this special occasion, and many were eager to be a part of it.

Hollee McGinnis took her kids out of school early to experience the eclipse, seeing it as a special appointment with nature. Young boys Mason and Evan were among the attendees, wearing special shirts for the occasion. They expressed their excitement at witnessing something really cool.

One highlight of the event was a woman selling moon pies and eclipse gum to those interested in enjoying snacks while watching the eclipse. Members of the Astronomical Society provided telescopes for a safe viewing experience. For 10-year-old Mason, viewing the eclipse brought him a step closer to his dream of becoming an astronaut. His brother found the experience boring, but Mason was determined to fulfill his dream one day. The next solar eclipse is not expected until 2044, potentially giving Mason the opportunity to become an astronaut by then.
