Ukrainian authorities confirmed on Wednesday night that Russian forces launched a major attack on the country’s energy infrastructure in various regions. The attacks hit production facilities and transmission systems in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhia, and Lviv.

Two thermal power plants belonging to Ukrainian energy supplier DTEK were among the targets of the attack. According to reports from the Ukrainian general staff, Moscow used cruise missiles and Iranian-made drones in the assault. Despite this, Ukraine was able to intercept and destroy the majority of the drones launched against them.

In Kharkiv, at least 10 strikes were carried out against essential infrastructure, causing concerns about energy supplies in the region. The mayor of Kharkiv announced that the metro would be closed for several hours due to the attacks. Similar attacks were reported in the Kyiv and Zaporizhia regions, affecting critical infrastructure and leaving thousands of subscribers without electricity.

The situation remains tense as Ukrainian authorities work to assess and address the damage caused by the attacks. The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to escalate, with civilians and critical infrastructure bearing the brunt of the violence.
