In response to recent allegations that Russia is interfering with the Paris Olympics and waging a disinformation campaign against the event, the Russian embassy in Paris has issued a statement condemning the Russophobic campaign in French media. The embassy emphasized that Russia has more important priorities and urged French authorities to intervene and put an end to the anti-Russian information campaign.
The embassy’s statement comes after coffins covered with a French flag and the words ‘French soldiers in Ukraine’ were placed on the Eiffel Tower. The embassy expressed solidarity with French citizens who are facing a witch hunt due to their support for maintaining friendship between the two countries.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied allegations that Moscow is involved in spreading disinformation about the Olympic Games, calling it pure slander. According to a report by the Microsoft Threat Analysis Center (MTAC), two Russian groups – Storm-1679 and Storm-1099 – are accused of spreading fear to discourage spectators from attending the Games. However, Peskov dismissed these accusations.
Three men suspected of placing the coffins at the Eiffel Tower appeared before an investigating judge in Paris. The driver, a Bulgarian national, and two other men – one born in Germany and the other born in Ukraine – have not been arrested at this time.
