In the upcoming summer, Rome will host its first ever UAS Hack event. This multi-day gathering will delve into the intersection of drone technology and cybersecurity, with a focus on encouraging collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking while addressing cybersecurity issues within the UAS industry. Scheduled for August 19-23 at ORION at NTROPEE facility in Rome, the event targets university-aged students and professionals in the unmanned aerial systems (UAS) field.
Assured Information Security (AIS) has announced that it will be offering guidance and curriculum for the event. AIS Chief Engineer Eric Thayer will be mentoring aspiring students during the UAS Hack event to expose participants to industry professionals and relevant platforms in order to expand their skills and gain insight into potential careers in security. Students will receive mentorship and training on assessing UAS security, recognizing security threats, and providing feedback to vendors and manufacturers.
The UAS Hack event is being held in New York’s 50-mile UAS corridor. Participants will have hands-on challenges to identify vulnerabilities in drone systems and devise effective strategies to combat potential cyberattacks. The event is sponsored by the Open-Architecture Resilient IoT for Operational Networks (ORION) ecosystem, which includes partners such as the Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate, Quanterion Solutions, Griffiss Institute, NYSTEC, and Cisco.
