The annual naked bike ride is coming to San Francisco once again. This year, the event will begin at the giant bow and arrow in Rincon Park, also known as Cupid’s Span by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. The route will take participants past Chase Center, Oracle Park, North Beach, City Hall, the Haight, and end in the Castro, totaling 16.5 miles in length.

Organizers of the Naked Bike Ride ask that cyclists stay in the right lane as much as possible, avoid throwing objects at passing cars, and ensure that their bicycles are in good condition before the ride begins. Despite the forecast for rain, it’s still a good idea for riders to apply sunblock for protection.

For those considering joining the ride but feeling hesitant about nudity, there is a “as bare as you dare” ethos embraced by organizers. Suggestions include bringing transparent ponchos or windbreakers in case of rain. The World Naked Bike Ride, which started 20 years ago in Vancouver, Canada by Conrad Schmidt, has since spread to 36 countries as a way to protest climate change, raise awareness of cyclist and pedestrian vulnerability, and promote body positivity, community building and renewable energy.

This year, participants in the Naked Bike Ride are encouraged to celebrate the anniversary of the event and contribute to the cause in their own way by dressing up creatively or bringing along food donations for charity. The event is not only fun but also brings awareness to important issues like cyclist safety and environmental conservation
