In an effort to improve response times and safety for first responders, the Cosumnes Fire Department in Elk Grove has recently implemented new technology. This cutting-edge system, known as LYT.emergency, is a cloud-based solution that uses the GPS location of emergency vehicles to change traffic lights, allowing first responders to reach their destinations more quickly. Currently, there are 43 traffic signals equipped with this technology along Laguna Boulevard, Bond Road, and Elk Grove Boulevard.

The main goal of LYT.emergency is to ensure that traffic flow is not disrupted while also making it easier and safer for drivers to pull over and allow emergency vehicles to pass through intersections. The pilot program will last for a year, during which stakeholders will assess its effectiveness as a long-term tool for first responders. Kevin Mclean, First Battalion Chief for the Cosumnes Fire Department, emphasized the importance of quick response times, as delays can impact the survivability rate of patients and victims. The funding for this technology comes from Measure E.

Overall, the implementation of LYT.emergency by the Cosumnes Fire Department in Elk Grove aims to enhance the efficiency of emergency response operations and promote safety for both first responders and the community.
