Penn State Altoona Athletics has announced that Tom Koehle, the head coach of its NCAA Division III men’s golf program, will be the new head coach of the department’s women’s golf team. The addition of women’s golf to Penn State Altoona’s NCAA Division III sport offerings was announced last August, with the team set to begin intercollegiate play in the 2024-25 season.

Koehle has been the head coach of Penn State Altoona’s men’s golf program for 18 years, leading the Lions to eight conference championships and seven NCAA postseason appearances. He has been recognized as the AMCC Coach of the Year three times. This upcoming season will mark a significant milestone for Penn State Altoona as it welcomes back women’s golf as a full team sport after sponsoring individual women golfers at the NCAA level for the past decade.

The team’s schedule for the 2024-25 season will be released this summer, and Koehle looks forward to helping his new team achieve success on and off the course. “I am excited about this opportunity to work with a talented group of young women who are passionate about golf,” he said. “I have always believed that golf is a game that can teach valuable life skills such as discipline, perseverance, and sportsmanship.”
