Dave McCarty, a member of the Boston Red Sox 2004 World Series-winning team, passed away at the age of 54 in Oakland, California. The Red Sox confirmed that his death was due to a “cardiac event.” McCarty was among the players from the 2004 team who recently reunited at Fenway Park to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their victory and honor teammates who had passed away, including Tim Wakefield and his wife Stacy.

McCarty’s former teammate Kevin Youkilis shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, expressing his gratitude for the time they spent together. McCarty was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in 1991 and made his major league debut with them in 1993. Over his 11-season career, he played for seven different teams, including the San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals, Tampa Bay Rays, and Oakland Athletics.

In total, McCarty appeared in 630 games and had a batting average of .242 with 36 home runs and 175 RBI. After retiring from baseball, he worked as an analyst for NESN from 2005 to 2008. McCarty will be remembered not only for his contributions on the field but also for his impact as a father, husband, teammate, and friend.
