Reggie Bush, the former USC football player who won the Heisman Trophy in 2005, will be receiving his trophy back after nearly two decades for the anniversary. In 2010, Bush forfeited the trophy after USC faced sanctions for violations that included Bush receiving improper benefits during his time with the Trojans. However, with recent changes in college athletics rules allowing players to earn money from their name, image, and likeness, the Heisman Trophy Trust president Michael Comerford announced that this was one of the reasons why Bush would be getting his trophy back.

Bush expressed his excitement about reuniting with other Heisman winners and being part of the prestigious legacy of the Heisman Trophy. He also mentioned that he was honored to rejoin the Heisman family and looked forward to collaborating with them to advance their mission and values. Other Heisman winners have shown their support for Bush’s return, with Johnny Manziel stating that he would boycott the ceremony until Bush was reinstated.

The announcement of Bush receiving his trophy back means that both he and Manziel could potentially attend the 2025 festivities. This move represents a significant moment in college athletics history as it symbolizes how rules and regulations have evolved to better support and empower student-athletes.
