The 2023-24 ski season at Big Bear Mountain Resort was a record-breaking one, officials say it was the second-snowiest in the last 25 years. Snow Valley received 199 inches, while Snow Summit and Bear Mountain received 174 inches each. Photos from April 1, 2024, show over two feet of fresh powder from a weekend of snowfall.

February was a significant month for the resort, with the snowiest February since at least 2000. One week saw massive snowbanks forming, with Snow Valley receiving over eight feet of snow, including 73 inches over a 72-hour period. California ski resorts have been benefiting from a wet winter.

As the season comes to a close this weekend, Snow Valley and Bear Mountain will be closing while Snow Summit will remain open. Next year’s pass holders can start using their passes immediately for the remainder of this season, which can save them up to $100 if they buy in the spring rather than the fall.

Now is a great time for parents to bring their children out to the slopes since there are reduced crowds. Kids can get a complimentary lift ticket with every group lesson until the end of the season. The heavy snowfall this winter wasn’t just limited to the ski resorts; the state’s snowpack level in April was above average for the second year in a row.
