Spring Sports Season Showcases Eugene-Area Athletes’ Skills

With only a few weeks left in the high school spring sports season, Eugene-area athletes are continuing to impress with their talent and achievements. This week’s Register-Guard Athlete of the Week nominees include Reagan Kumle from Springfield softball, McKenzie Larsen from Churchill girls tennis, Trison Hedges from Thurston boys golf, Aiden Hibler from North Eugene baseball, Anthony Angelastro from Marist boys golf, Francesca Tomp from North Eugene girls golf, and Camille Gamble from Thurston girls golf.

Reagan Kumle had an outstanding performance in a recent game for Springfield softball. She hit a double, three RBIs, and scored a run in the Millers’ 10-3 victory over Ashland. Meanwhile, Churchill junior McKenzie Larsen secured two wins at No. 1 singles in girls tennis, defeating opponents from North Eugene and Willamette. Thurston senior Trison Hedges finished in second place at the boys 5A Midwestern League District Championships in golf with a two-day score of 162.

North Eugene’s freshman baseball player Aiden Hibler contributed significantly to his team’s win over Crater with four hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored. In boys golf, Marist senior Anthony Angelastro placed third at the Shadow Hills Marshfield Invitational with a score of 81 and helped his team secure the overall title. North Eugene junior Francesca Tomp clinched victory at the girls 5A Midwestern League District Championships with a two-day score of 152.

One athlete who stood out this week was Thurston sophomore Camille Gamble who achieved a remarkable feat by hitting a hole-in-one at the girls 5A Midwestern League District Championships and registering a two-day score of 215. As we continue to follow these athletes throughout the season
