According to recent research from the Confcommercio Tourism Observatory and Swg, a staggering 10 million Italians are planning to embark on holiday trips for Easter. While two million are still undecided due to unpredictable weather conditions, they are eager to pack their bags and hit the road. Additionally, another 8.5 million Italians have planned their travel itineraries for the upcoming long April 25 weekend.

The total expense for these holidays is estimated at an impressive 3.5 billion euros, equating to approximately 350 euros per person. It’s worth noting that 85% of Italians traveling during Easter prefer domestic destinations within their own country, with seaside locations being the most popular choice at 25%. The cities of art also came in at a close second with 21%, while mountains were preferred by just 15%.

The past month has seen many people adjust their plans, opting for shorter holidays closer to home. As such, over two-thirds (61%) of those surveyed will spend only two nights at their destination, up from previous data by a full 12 percentage points. Despite this change in preference towards shorter stays, there has been a slight increase in the number of Italians traveling abroad for Easter from 11% to 15%. Popular destinations include Spain, France, and Austria.

When it comes to accommodation choices, more than half (51%) of travelers opt for hotels or bed and breakfasts while nearly one-third (30%) choose to stay in second homes or visit friends and family during the holidays. Interestingly enough, almost half of those staying within Italy for Easter have planned trips outside of their own region – with popular destinations including Campania, Sicily
