At the 2024 Australian Open Championships, Elizabeth Dekkers set a new All Comers Record in the 200m fly event with a clocking time of 2:05.20. This was an impressive feat for the 19-year-old swimmer as it surpassed her previous record of 2:05.26 set in 2023, and it was also a new lifetime best.

Dekkers’ success at this year’s championships was largely due to her faster start compared to the previous year, which accounted for most of the gap between their times. Despite her impressive performance, Dekkers remains ranked third among Australian all-time performers in the 200m fly event and 14th in the world. However, she currently holds the second spot in the world this season after winning gold at the upcoming Trials in June.

Dekkers’ success at this year’s championships is not limited to Australia; she has also achieved podium finishes at three international events last year. She won silver with a time of 2:05.46 in Fukuoka, bronze with a time of 2:03.94 at the Short Course World Championships and gold with a time of 2:07.26 at the Commonwealth Games. This demonstrates her consistency and strong performance on an international stage, making her one of Australia’s top swimmers to watch out for future competitions.
