The McLaren P1, a rare and highly sought-after vehicle, has been produced in only 375 examples along with a few prototype models. This limited availability makes any P1 that comes up for sale an exceptional opportunity for collectors. The latest P1 to hit the market is no exception, as it is a prototype model known internally as the P1 VP3 (Validation Prototype 3).

What sets this particular P1 apart is its ownership by two-time Formula 1 world champion Mika Häkkinen. Häkkinen won his titles in 1998 and 1999 while driving for McLaren and is now selling his P1 at an auction by Bonhams in Monaco on May 10. As an added bonus, the winning bidder will receive a one-day driving course with Häkkinen at the location of their choice.

The estimated price for Häkkinen’s P1 is between $1.2 million and $1.5 million. The car, used for durability testing, is one of only seven Validation Prototypes built by McLaren. It comes with a booklet detailing test notes and information collected during its development phase. This P1 features a black color scheme with orange accents chosen by Häkkinen and applied by McLaren’s MSO department.

While the exact mileage of the car is not disclosed, the McLaren P1 is known for its impressive performance. With a plug-in hybrid powertrain generating 903 hp from a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V-8 engine and an electric motor, the P1 was part of the iconic Holy Trinity of hypercars in the early 2010s.
