On a Saturday night, 46 dogs were in danger at a business complex on Bloomfield Avenue near Route 46 in Fairfield. A fire had started in a nearby convenience and smoke shop, spreading to other businesses in the area, including the kennel where the dogs were kept. The police officers arrived on the scene without any fire safety equipment but bravely entered the Pio Costa Industrial Complex to rescue the animals.

The video footage shows the dramatic moments when the officers broke through a security door to gain access to the kennels and began searching for and rescuing the dogs. Despite not having any protective gear, they quickly sprang into action, determined to save as many lives as possible.

Unfortunately, one of the officers suffered smoke inhalation during the rescue operation and had to be taken to the hospital. However, all 46 dogs were successfully rescued and taken to a different facility where they received medical attention from a veterinarian. The quick thinking and bravery of the police officers ensured that all animals were safe and out of harm’s way.

The incident serves as a reminder of how important it is for emergency responders to have adequate protection when working in dangerous conditions. However, it also highlights how dedicated these brave men and women are to saving lives, no matter what obstacles they may face.
