North Olmsted has experienced a surge of growth, with an increasing number of Arab-owned businesses now lining the same stretch of road. Among these businesses are many owned by Palestinians, who are currently facing the devastating effects of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

Fire and Dough, owned and operated by Nizam Suliman, is one such establishment. As both the owner and chef, Suliman takes pride in serving fresh, halal meat to his customers. His passion for cooking began at a young age while living in the Middle East. In 2013, he arrived in Cleveland and was able to fulfill his dream of opening his own business on Oct. 10, 2023.

However, just weeks after the grand opening of Fire and Dough, the Israel-Hamas conflict erupted. Suliman expressed how the war overseas has weighed heavily on the Palestinian community in North Olmsted. The loss of loved ones has led to a somber atmosphere, affecting business and making it difficult for them to celebrate their new restaurant’s success.

Despite these challenges, Suliman remains optimistic about the future for his community. He expressed hope that peace will prevail in his home country and around the world so that they can continue to thrive as a community. With a strong belief in a better tomorrow, he reassures his workers that everything will eventually improve.
