The city of Orsk, located in the Orenburg region near the border with Kazakhstan, faced a major challenge when a breach in the protective dam caused flooding in a large part of the city. Approximately 11 thousand people lived in the affected area, with thousands of homes in the flood zone. The flooding primarily impacted the “old city” of Orsk, where one-story, two- and three-story houses from the 1930s and modern cottages are located.

Despite this devastating flood, there were no deaths directly attributed to it. According to a representative of the city mayor’s office, two people had heart attacks, one died of natural causes, and another person committed suicide. However, there were no fatalities related to the flooding caused by the dam break.

As if that wasn’t enough, online content about an unrelated topic – an Aviator game program and slot machine – also appeared in text discussing the flooding situation. This was not only distracting but also did not reflect the gravity of the situation facing Orsk’s residents. Despite these challenges, it is clear that attention needs to be focused on addressing both issues at hand – fixing the dam and providing support for those affected by its failure.
