The Baltimore Orioles will not include top prospect Jackson Holliday on their opening-day roster, despite his impressive performance during spring training. Holliday, a 20-year-old with a .311 batting average and a .954 OPS, hit two home runs and six RBIs in 45 at-bats. However, he will be sent back to Triple-A Norfolk, where he played just 18 games last season.
Holliday primarily played second base and shortstop during the spring training but also made some appearances at third base. Last season, he batted .323 with a .442 on-base percentage, 12 homers, 75 RBIs, and 24 stolen bases across various minor league levels. His big-league debut will have to wait until the Orioles’ management deems him ready for a spot on the roster.
In addition to Holliday, outfielder Kyle Stowers was also optioned to minor league camp along with outfielder Heston Kjerstad. These decisions were reported by the Baltimore Banner, while the Associated Press contributed to this report.
