The Baltimore Orioles have just called up the top-ranked prospect in baseball, 20-year-old shortstop Jackson Holliday, to their major league roster. Holliday had an impressive start with the team’s Triple-A affiliate last season and continued to excel this spring training.

As the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft, Holliday is considered one of the top prospects in baseball. Cal Ripken Jr., legendary Orioles player and now part-owner of the team, expressed his family’s excitement on social media about Holliday wearing his father’s number. The Orioles have officially announced that Holliday will wear the No. 7, a number previously worn by Cal Ripken Sr., who served as a coach and manager for the team for over 35 years.

Holliday had a strong performance with Norfolk Tides this season, hitting .333/.482/.595 with nine RBI and two home runs in just 10 games. Orioles general manager Mike Elias praised Holliday’s performance, emphasizing his potential to become one of the top players in the league. Despite being drafted as a shortstop, Holliday has been playing second base this season in Norfolk. It remains to be seen how he will fit into the Orioles’ lineup.

The Orioles have won over 100 games last season for the first time since 1980 and are currently leading Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park with a record of 6-4 heading into Wednesday’s game.
