Google has recently released an upgraded version of its ‘Find my device’ service, which enhances the user experience by allowing for offline location tracking and compatibility with third-party Bluetooth devices.

The new feature allows users to locate their Android phones or tablets even when an internet connection is not available, making it particularly useful in remote locations or areas with limited connectivity. In addition, Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro users can track their devices even if they are turned off or have a depleted battery.

The service will also be compatible with third-party tracking accessories from brands such as Chipolo and Pebblebee in May. These accessories are designed specifically for use on the Google service and will allow for more accurate tracking of devices that may be out of range.

Another new feature is the ability to share accessories with friends and family through the updated ‘Find my device’ app. This feature allows multiple users to keep track of each other’s location and provides an added layer of security.

The service is available on devices starting with Android 9 and is highlighted as being “secure by default and private by design”. Initially, it is accessible in the United States and Canada only. However, Google plans to roll out the updated service to more countries in the future.
