Nightwing, a cybersecurity and intelligence division that was formerly part of RTX, has now become an independent entity following a $1.3 billion deal disclosed by RTX in its quarterly financial documents. A spokesperson for RTX confirmed the completion of the deal on April 1 and emphasized that Nightwing is not affiliated with the defense contractor. Although the buyer was not named by the spokesperson, Reuters had previously identified it as private equity firm Blackstone.

The leadership team at Nightwing consists of former RTX employees, including John DeSimone, Steve Worley, Timothy Zentz, Jon Check, Lori Scherer, and Ron McDermott. With a combined experience of over 40 years, the company describes itself as having a strong foundation despite its new name. The transition to independence was completed in 2024 after being a part of a leading Fortune 100 company.

RTX is the second-largest defense contractor globally in terms of defense-related revenue, reporting earnings of $39.6 billion in 2022 and $41.9 billion in 2021, according to the Defense News Top 100 list.
