The University of Cincinnati and tech firm Nexigen have recently announced a collaboration aimed at enhancing the security of artificial intelligence. This partnership builds on Nexigen’s efforts to create secure repositories outside of large language models capable of generating content through processing vast amounts of data. By leveraging the university’s faculty expertise, the collaboration aims to develop additional filters to improve the accuracy and safety of these secure repositories.

According to Jon Salisbury, CEO of Nexigen, this partnership is crucial in addressing potential cybersecurity threats as AI software advances. He emphasized the importance of adopting a zero-trust cybersecurity approach, which focuses on detecting any malicious intent in the output of large language models. If there are indications of evolving self-intelligence within these models, the goal is to identify and remove them from the network promptly.

Kelly Cohen, chair of the aerospace engineering department at the university, stated that this collaboration presents new opportunities for research and learning among students. The goal is to establish UC as a leader in trustworthy AI by enhancing value through partnerships with industry experts. By working together, they aspire to increase the reliability of AI output and prevent individuals from using AI instructions for illegal activities like manufacturing explosives.

Through this collaboration, both partners hope to proactively address security concerns associated with AI advancements. As AI continues to become more integrated into our daily lives, it is essential that we prioritize its security and ensure that it is used responsibly.
