During her maiden State of the City address, New Rochelle Mayor Yadira Ramos-Herbert focused on the city’s robust economy. She emphasized the support provided to local businesses through events such as the New Rochelle Street Fair, Holiday Market, and Taste of Union Avenue. These initiatives play a crucial role in promoting economic growth and fostering community engagement.

In addition to supporting local businesses, Mayor Ramos-Herbert outlined several key initiatives aimed at further enhancing the city’s economy. Grants are available to help restore storefronts, with a primary objective being to transform Memorial Highway into a vital connection between downtown, the train station, and Lincoln Avenue. Plans include the creation of pedestrian-friendly spaces and bike lanes to improve connectivity and increase walkability within the city.

New Rochelle has set ambitious goals to become a leader in sustainable urban development. The city aims to join an elite group of cities worldwide that are paving the way towards a more environmentally conscious future. As part of this initiative, the renovation of the New Rochelle train station is currently underway. Plans are in place for it to become the first Metro North stop with direct access to Penn Station in the coming years, enhancing transportation options and connectivity for residents and visitors alike.
