The U.S. Women’s team is set to face Finland in the semifinals of the 2024 IIHF Women’s World Championship tonight. After a dominant 10-0 victory over Japan in the quarterfinals, the team is eager to continue their success and take on Finland in what will be their 25th meeting.

Finland and the U.S. have a storied rivalry, with the U.S. holding a commanding 20-1-1-0-1 advantage over Finland. In their last meeting on April 6, Kendall Coyne Schofield scored twice as the U.S. emerged victorious with a 13-game winning streak against Finland.

The U.S. has a strong record in semifinal play at the Women’s World Championship, with an all-time record of 17 wins, one loss, and one tie (W-L-T). They have not lost a semifinal game since 2009 and have emerged victorious each time they have faced Finland in this stage of competition.

Goaltender Aerin Frankel has been instrumental in Team USA’s success so far, posting three shutouts in just four games at this tournament. This ties the record for most shutouts in a single tournament in Women’s Worlds history and is Frankel’s first shutout since Kim St. Pierre achieved it for Canada in 2005
