Inez Fung, an expert in atmospheric science, meteorology, and ecology, has been appointed to the Science and Security Board (SASB) of The Bulletin. The SASB is a group of global leaders specializing in nuclear risk, climate change, and disruptive technologies. Fung’s addition to the board brings valuable knowledge and expertise to the organization as it continues to provide external perspectives on trends and issues in these areas.

Bulletin President and CEO Rachel Bronson is thrilled to have Fung on board to provide guidance as the climate crisis continues to escalate. Fung’s work on climate modeling and biogeochemical cycles has been instrumental in providing crucial information to combat the climate crisis.

Fung is a Professor of Atmospheric Science at the University of California, Berkeley, where she has made significant contributions to understanding the global carbon cycle. Her research has led to groundbreaking discoveries about the role of the terrestrial biosphere in absorbing anthropogenic CO2. She has also been recognized for her work by prestigious organizations such as NASA, Scientific American, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

As a member of several prestigious scientific organizations including the US National Academy of Sciences, the Royal Society in London, and Academia Sinica in Taiwan, Fung has received numerous accolades for her contributions to atmospheric science. Her work on climate change has been recognized with awards such as the Roger Revelle Medal from the American Geophysical Union and the C.G. Rossby Research Medal from the American Meteorological Society.
