On Wednesday, Governor Phil Murphy signed a bill into law that formally established a process for certifying LGBTQ+-owned businesses in New Jersey. This legislation builds upon an earlier executive order and supports diversity and inclusion in the business community.

Gus Penaranda, Executive Director of the NJ Pride Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the significance of this new law in welcoming businesses looking to invest in New Jersey. By codifying the certification program in statute, the state ensures continued support and recognition for LGBTQ+-owned businesses.

To be eligible for certification, businesses must be majority-owned by LGBTQ+ individuals actively involved in management. The goal is to encourage LGBTQ+ businesses to establish roots in New Jersey and contribute to its economy. With an estimated 1.4 million LGBTQ+-owned businesses in the US, this economic impact deserves recognition and support.
