On Monday, Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, reaffirmed his commitment to not end the war in Gaza Strip until Hamas is eliminated. In a telephone conversation with US President Joe Biden, Netanyahu emphasized the importance of Israel achieving all its objectives in the offensive, which include eliminating Hamas, releasing hostages, and ensuring Gaza no longer poses a threat.

Netanyahu’s office released an official statement regarding the conversation with Biden, where they discussed the latest developments in the war and Israel’s commitment to its goals. The dialogue took place amidst tension following comments by US Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer accusing Netanyahu of being an obstacle to peace and suggesting elections to replace him.

The conversation also covered the distribution of humanitarian aid to Gaza, as reports indicated catastrophic food insecurity in the region. The White House issued a statement saying President Biden expressed concern about Israeli plans to occupy Rafah, urging Netanyahu to avoid a major ground operation that could result in more civilian deaths.

White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan emphasized that the objectives Israel wants to achieve in Rafah can be pursued through alternative means without a major ground operation. Despite strained relations between Israel and the US, Netanyahu insists that Israeli forces will operate in the city, despite it being an American-imposed red line for the offensive.
