Maren Louridas, a sophomore at the Naval Academy, has been recognized for her outstanding performance on both the basketball court and in the classroom. She was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team this week, which comes after being selected to the 2023-24 Patriot League All-Academic Team. Louridas is one of six student-athletes from the conference to receive this nationwide accolade.

Louridas has been a key player for the Navy basketball team, starting in 60 out of a possible 61 games and scoring an average of 8.7 points per game with 528 points. She has also been a strong presence on the boards, with 317 rebounds at a rate of 5.2 per game. Louridas is known for her one-on-one defense and has played significant minutes in both her freshman and sophomore seasons, averaging 31.9 minutes per game, which currently ranks fifth all-time in Navy’s career record book.

In addition to her success on the court, Louridas has excelled in the classroom as well. She maintains a 4.0 GPA in cyber operations over her first three semesters at the Naval Academy and has received three Commandant’s List accolades. She was also named to the 2022-23 Patriot League Honor Roll.

The Navy basketball program had a successful season as well, with one of the biggest single-season turnarounds in NCAA Division I. The team increased their win total by 13 games and finished in a four-way tie for fifth place in the Patriot League, just one game out of second place.
