MIT Tops 11 Subject Areas in QS World University Rankings for 2024, Further Affirming its Position as a Global Leader in Higher Education

MIT has been ranked as the No. 1 university in 11 subject areas for 2024, according to the QS World University Rankings. The Institute received top rankings in several fields, including Chemical Engineering; Civil and Structural Engineering; Computer Science and Information Systems; Data Science and Artificial Intelligence; Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Linguistics; Materials Science; Mechanical, Aeronautical, and Manufacturing Engineering; Mathematics; Physics and Astronomy; and Statistics and Operational Research.

In addition to these rankings, MIT also ranked second in several other subject areas, including Accounting and Finance; Architecture/Built Environment; Biological Sciences; Chemistry; and Economics and Econometrics. The university was evaluated in a total of 55 specific subjects and five broader subject areas.
