On March 5, the MIT community mourned the loss of one of its brightest stars, Chasity Nunez. At the age of 27, she passed away, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her. Nunez served as the patient safety and clinical quality program coordinator at MIT Health, where she played a vital role in maintaining high safety standards by training staff on reporting procedures and best practices for patient safety.

Elene Scheff, Director of Clinical Collaborations and Partnerships, remembers Nunez as a dedicated learner who was always looking for ways to improve herself. While pursuing her second master’s degree in informatics, she also held her role at MIT Health with passion and dedication. She enjoyed being challenged and collaborating with colleagues, leaving a lasting impact on those around her.

MIT Chief Health Officer Cecilia Stuopis remembers Nunez as someone who was deeply committed to the health and well-being of the MIT community. She was beloved by her colleagues and made a powerful impact on the patients she served. In addition to her work at MIT Health, Nunez also served in the U.S. Army National Guard as an IT support specialist in Connecticut. She was always looking for ways to improve herself and was eager to learn and grow professionally.

Michele David, chief of clinical quality and patient safety, recalls Nunez’s can-do attitude and willingness to take on new challenges. She left a lasting impression on the MIT Health team and will continue to inspire those who knew her. To honor her memory, MIT Health organized a GoFundMe campaign to support her daughter’s future educational needs. The campaign exceeded its goal thanks to the generosity of the MIT community, with all proceeds going to Nunez’s family. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
