In recent news, Microsoft has confirmed a bug in its Windows operating system’s latest security update package released in April 2024. This issue is causing VPN connections to be interrupted suddenly in both desktop and server versions. A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, is a tool that creates a secure, encrypted connection between a device and a remote server operated by the VPN provider. This encrypted connection allows for remote work, bypassing online censorship, and downloading files securely.

Microsoft has issued an alert to users informing them that Windows devices may face VPN connection failure after installing the April 2024 security update or non-security preview update. While the company has not yet identified the root cause of these VPN failures, it recommends using the “Get Help” app from the search box for assistance. The affected versions include Windows 11, Windows 10, and Windows Server 2008 and later.

For those who have already downloaded the update, Microsoft has provided a temporary solution for VPN issues until a final patch is released. However, it is important to note that removing cumulative updates to resolve VPN issues may also remove fixes for security vulnerabilities. Microsoft has a history of investigating and releasing updates to address VPN issues, indicating that these network virtual private support issues are recurrent.

Given that Microsoft’s operating system accounts for 68.15% of the market in desktop, tablet, and console versions, promptly resolving these VPN connection failures is crucial. The company continues to work on providing solutions and patches for any issues that arise in its operating system updates.
