Diplomatic personnel from Mexico who were in Ecuador have returned to Mexico through a commercial flight with the assistance of friendly embassies, as announced by Mexican Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena. In a statement on Saturday, Bárcena pledged that Mexico will always prioritize the safety and rights of its staff.

The decision to bring back the diplomats came after Mexico severed diplomatic relations with Ecuador following an attempt to capture former Ecuadorian vice president Jorge Glas at the Mexican Embassy in Quito. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador instructed the return of the diplomatic staff, who traveled on a commercial flight assisted by friendly embassies.

López Obrador expressed gratitude for the messages of solidarity received from leaders, organizations, and countries in response to the incident at the Mexican Embassy in Ecuador. The Mexico Senate, led by President Ana Lilia Rivera, emphasized the importance of Ecuadorian authorities upholding their obligations to protect the Mexican embassy, assets, and archives in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Meanwhile, Organization of American States (OAS) Secretary General Luis Almagro has called for dialogue between Mexico and Ecuador to resolve tensions. He plans to convene a meeting of the organization’s Permanent Council to address the diplomatic crisis. Additionally, Mexico has indicated its intention to take legal action against Ecuador for violating international law during the assault on its embassy in Quito.

In conclusion, it is important that all nations adhere to their obligations under international law when dealing with each other’s embassies and consulates. Any violation of these laws can have serious consequences for both parties involved.
