The SME of the Year Award 2023 has been presented to Meltio, a company based in Linares, Jaén, by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Banco Santander. Meltio specializes in metal 3D printing for industrial parts and is a significant employer in the Andalusian town. Founded in 2019, the company was recognized for its innovation and professionalization in the VII Edition of the SME of the Year Award.
Meltio has developed a pioneering method of metal 3D printing, patenting the first head that extracts welding wire from a multilaser. With over 100 employees working at Meltio’s facilities, it exports over 96% of its production to more than 70 countries worldwide. The company serves industries such as automotive, aerospace, and naval with its innovative manufacturing process that results in lower costs and increased efficiency.
The CEO, Ángel Llavero, expressed his pride in Meltio’s contribution to revitalizing Linares’ economy. Carlos Body, Minister of Economy, King Felipe VI were invited to visit Meltio’s facilities to see firsthand the impact on the local economy. The award highlights SMEs’ efforts in driving economic growth and creating jobs while adapting to current market challenges.
Innovation was one of several key factors considered when selecting Meltio as winner among nearly 2,000 applicants with over 21 finalists. Felipe VI emphasized technology and innovation’s importance for maintaining competitiveness while Minister Corps highlighted supporting SMEs for a strong and competitive economy. The Spanish Chamber of Commerce president José Luis Bonet commended SMEs as job creators while Banco Santander’s CEO acknowledged their resilience in facing challenges despite job creation efforts continuously improving project development capabilities.
Meltio stands out as an excellent example of how technology-driven innovation can transform traditional industries into modern ones while contributing positively to society’s economic growth and development.
