Rory McIlroy, currently ranked as the world number two golfer, has been working with Butch Harmon, a former coach of Tiger Woods, in an effort to improve his game. McIlroy sought Harmon’s help after struggling to achieve success in recent PGA Tour events, with only one top-20 finish this season.
Harmon, who previously worked with Woods during his early major victories, has been a trusted advisor for McIlroy in the past. Despite having a long-time coach in fellow Northern Irishman Michael Bannon, McIlroy occasionally seeks additional input from experts like Harmon and Englishman Pete Cowen.
In a recent podcast interview, McIlroy shared that he visited Harmon for a golf lesson and received valuable insights into his game. He mentioned that even his daughter Poppy questioned the need for a lesson, believing that he already knows how to play golf. McIlroy found her perspective to be a refreshing reminder of the simplicity inherent in the game.
McIlroy’s quest to win The Masters and complete the career Grand Slam has been marked by nine attempts at Augusta, with his best finish being a second place in 2022. Despite his impressive track record and multiple top-10 finishes, McIlroy remains determined to overcome challenges and achieve his ultimate goal with the help of mentors like Harmon.
