In the first round of the ATP Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo, Matteo Berrettini suffered a defeat at the hands of Serbian player Miomir Kecmanovic with a score of 6-3, 6-1 in just over an hour. Despite this loss, Berrettini has been granted a wildcard entry into the main draw of the Italian Internationals tournament in Rome from May 6th to May 19th.

Angelo Binaghi, President of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation, announced that Matteo Berrettini and Fabio Fognini will be given wildcards for the main draw of the Internazionali Bnl d’Italia in Rome. Berrettini has participated in his home tournament five times, winning seven matches and losing five. His best result came in 2020 when he reached the quarter-finals before losing to Casper Ruud.

Seven other Italian players have also secured spots in the main draw of the men’s tournament in Rome based on their rankings. Novak Djokovic, who is currently ranked number one in the world, had a successful debut in Monte Carlo, defeating Roman Safiullin with a score of 6-1, 6-2 in the second round.
