Lost in Paradise: Celebrating the End of Winter and the Future of Para Snowboarding in Yukon

The Lost in Paradise FIS Para Snowboard World Cup and Festival is happening at Mount Sima in Whitehorse until March 31. This Easter weekend event marks the end of the season for Para Snowboard World Cup races. The festivities include a variety of races and activities for participants and spectators alike.

On March 27, the kick-off event for the festival was held at the Canada Games Centre. The main para snowboarding banked slalom races are scheduled for March 28 and 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Canadian athletes such as Tyler Turner and Alex Massie, both accomplished medalists in para snowboarding, will be competing in the event.

After the competition on March 29, awards will be presented at the Winterlong After Party starting at 4 p.m. Spectators can enjoy various activities including a vendor area, beer garden, DJ performances, and complimentary hot dogs.

In addition to the para snowboarding world cup, Mount Sima will host the 2024 Snowboard Yukon Champs on March 29 and 30. This friendly competition is open to snowboarders of all skill levels and will feature slopestyle, snowboard cross, and banked slalom events.

Lost in Paradise is the first para snowboarding world cup to be held in the Yukon, marking a significant milestone in the region’s sports history. The event is a result of collaboration between Canada Snowboard, Mount Sima, Snowboard Yukon, and Sport Yukon, showcasing the community’s dedication to supporting winter sports and athletes.
