Local artist and Bethlehem Area School District art teacher Carla Majczan has been selected to work with hundreds of students to create a colorful mural for the new Da Vinci Science Center in downtown Allentown. The mural, which will be 120 feet long, is set to be installed at the science center in late May or early June.

Carla had students at the Lehigh Valley Children’s Centers create art and designs based on her lesson plans for art and science. These students produced boxes full of art and ideas, which Carla then sorted through to create the final mural design. The mural is directly based on the children’s drawings and designs.

On Thursday morning, the kids will meet at the Judith Chase Early Learning Center on Chew Street to start painting the mural. The project involves about 300 students who have been working on it for some time now. It’s an exciting opportunity for them to showcase their talents and creativity while contributing to a community project.

The Da Vinci Science Center is set to open its doors on May 22, and the installation of this mural will add a touch of color and beauty to the downtown Allentown area. It’s a testament to the power of collaboration between artists, educators, and students, as well as the importance of giving back to the community through creative expression.
