The head of the Sunni session in the Kuwaiti National Assembly, Representative Saleh Ashour, announced that the opening session of the Council will take place on Sunday, April 21, despite a decree postponing it until May 14. He stated that this decision was made to adhere to constitutional dates and ensure the smooth functioning of the legislative term.

Ashour also outlined the procedures for assuming the position of President of the Senate until the President of the Council is elected according to the Constitution. In addition, he mentioned that a session has been called for Sunday, April 21, in accordance with Article 87 of the Constitution, to avoid any constitutional suspicions and uphold the constitutional dates.

Regarding Decree No. 67 of 2024, which rescheduled a session scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, Ashour stated that this was done due to unforeseen circumstances. However, representatives expressed their support for Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Sabah as he takes over as Prime Minister and urged him to prioritize citizens’ concerns.

The National Assembly is taking steps to ensure that everything runs smoothly during this legislative term while upholding the constitution.
