The United States and Mexico have decided to withdraw their bid to host the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, announced by U.S. Soccer on Monday. Instead, the two nations will focus on pursuing a bid to host the 2031 Women’s World Cup in an effort to create a more equitable hosting plan. This decision comes as the U.S. and Mexico are already set to host the 2026 World Cup alongside Canada, marking the first time the tournament will be hosted by three countries. By delaying their bid to host the women’s tournament, U.S. Soccer aims to gain more experience from the joint hosting of the 2026 tournament and better support the host cities involved.

Hosting a World Cup tournament is a significant endeavor, and having additional time to prepare will allow U.S. Soccer to maximize the global impact of the event. Cindy Parlow Cone, President of U.S. Soccer, emphasized the importance of proper preparation and highlighted the opportunity to host a successful Women’s World Cup.

The decision to focus on the 2031 bid stems from a desire to create a more equitable tournament experience akin to the Men’s World Cup, ensuring equal investment for both events to fully capitalize on the commercial potential of the women’s tournament.

U.S. and Mexican leaders have expressed their commitment to providing equitable experiences for players, fans, and stakeholders, aiming to break records and expand media deals and corporate partnerships.

With Brazil being one of several options remaining for hosting in 2027, including a joint bid from Germany and Netherlands or Belgium, FIFA will make its final decision on May 17 in Thailand.

The U.S., Mexico, Brazil or Netherlands/Germany/Belgium will be able find out if they get selected as hosts next year for this prestigious event that has become one of biggest international sports event globally that showcases women’s soccer talent at highest level .
