John Lee Hancock, the talented director behind The Blind Side and Saving Mr. Banks, is set to bring another compelling legal drama to life. The upcoming film, titled Monsanto, will be starring an impressive cast of actors including Glen Powell, Anthony Mackie, and Laura Dern.

Powell will play Brent Wisner, a young attorney who takes on the case of Dewayne “Lee” Johnson (Mackie) against Monsanto after Johnson develops cancer from using the company’s weed killer. Dern will portray Dr. Melinda Rogers, the chief toxicologist at Monsanto who testifies during the trial that their product is safe.

The film is based on a true story about Johnson’s court case against the agrochemical giant after being diagnosed with Non Hodgkin Lymphoma. The script was developed in association with Zurich Avenue and written by Michael Wisner, Alexandra Duparc, Ned Benson, and Hancock himself. Producers include Moritz Borman, Eric Kopeloff, Philip Schulz-Deyle, Jon Levin and Adam McKay and Kevin Messick from HyperObject Industries are also involved. Rocket Science will handle international sales while CAA Media Finance will manage US rights.

As someone who has directed films like The Blind Side and Saving Mr. Banks which tackled important social issues in an engaging way , Hancock expressed his interest in telling this David vs Goliath story due to its dramatic nature and its relevance to today’s world . With a talented cast including Powell, Mackie and Dern , this legal drama promises to resonate with audiences and bring attention to an important real-life story .
