With the departure of head coach Mark Byington and graduations, JMU men’s basketball is looking to replenish their team for the upcoming season. One player that is expected to play a key role is rising junior guard Xavier Brown, who has announced his return to the team. During his sophomore season, Brown showcased his scoring abilities and energetic defense, making him a standout player in the Sun Belt conference.

While there have been no new additions to the team through the transfer portal yet, several departures will impact their roster for the upcoming season. Terrence Edwards, the 2023-24 Sun Belt Player of the Year, is planning to test the NBA waters. Jaylen Carey, a standout freshman, has transferred to Vanderbilt where he is expected to make significant contributions. Raekwon Horton, a junior transfer, is also leaving JMU after making an impact during his time with the team.
