Israel’s army has appointed General Schlomi Binder as the new director of its military intelligence, following the resignation of Aharon Haliva about a week and a half ago. The previous director resigned in order to fulfill his leadership responsibilities after the Hamas massacre on October 7th. In addition to General Binder’s appointment, Israel’s military also announced new appointments in the General Staff on Thursday, which were the result of a process led by Israel’s defense minister Joav Galant and Chief of General Staff Herzi Halevi. However, some Israeli MPs have criticized the new appointments, stating that they are eager to see an end to the conflict in Gaza.

There are concerns that the new appointments could deepen the rift between political leadership and the security establishment in Israel. Reports indicate that there is growing dissatisfaction within the army over the government’s lack of a future plan for the Gaza Strip. This lack of planning could jeopardize war goals such as long-term destruction of Hamas, as power vacuum created by absence of plan could lead to resurgence Islamist organization.

Overall, ongoing conflict in Gaza has raised concerns about need for comprehensive plan to address complex issues in region work towards lasting solution.
