Boris Johnson, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, had introduced a rule requiring voters to show official documentation for identification during his tenure. However, on Thursday, he allegedly forgot his own law and arrived at the polling station without any ID, according to Sky News.

The polling station staff asked Johnson to leave after he failed to comply with the legislation he had introduced. Despite this mishap, Johnson had encouraged voters in the morning to support the Conservative Party, led by his successor Rishi Sunak.

Critics argue that the requirement for official photo identification such as a passport or driver’s license when voting disproportionately affects poorer and older individuals as well as members of minority groups who may be less likely to possess such ID. The law was enacted in 2022.

Johnson’s spokesman did not deny the incident but stated that Johnson was eventually able to cast his vote. Despite this mishap, it is unclear how it will impact future elections or whether it will be remembered by voters.
